FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to your most important questions.
How much will my appointment cost?
Nothing. All appointments and services at Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center are provided at no cost to you and are 100% confidential. We do not profit from your pregnancy decision in any way.
How do I know if I'm pregnant?
Pregnancy symptoms differ for every woman, and some might experience no symptoms at all. However, the most common sign of pregnancy is a missed period. There are other common symptoms that could detect the early stages of pregnancy including:
- Fatigue
- Nausea/vomiting
- Tender/swollen breasts
- Aversion to certain foods
- Cramping
- Mood swings
If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, you could be pregnant. However, the only way to tell if you are truly pregnant is to take a lab grade pregnancy test. Our center will provide you with an on-site test at no cost to you. If you believe you may be pregnant, please contact us today to schedule an appointment.
Will anyone find out about my appointment?
Your visit is 100% confidential. Because your privacy is our top priority, we follow national standards for protecting patient privacy and will never disclose your visit without your permission.
Also, because we provide our services to you at no cost, we do not collect insurance information; therefore, your insurance agency will not be alerted. We will never tell anyone about your pregnancy or appointment without your expressed written permission or unless required by law.
Do I need an ultrasound?
An ultrasound is crucial before an abortion decision because it answers three important questions: Is the pregnancy viable? How far along is the pregnancy? Where is the pregnancy located?
Even if your pregnancy test came back positive, your pregnancy can be nonviable. This happens if your body naturally miscarries or if you have an ectopic pregnancy (implantation occurs outside the uterus – this is extremely dangerous). A pregnancy test may indicate pregnancy but the ultrasound reveals more details. Schedule a free appointment with us today to begin pregnancy confirmation.
Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?
Yes. We want everyone who comes through our doors to feel supported, so guests are welcome. To protect patient privacy, all guests are required to remain in the waiting room at the beginning of your appointment as we collect critical information from you. After this step, your guest will be welcome to join you for the remainder of your appointment if you desire.
The father is coming with me to my appointment. Do you have any support for him?
Yes! We very much care about the father and how we can support him in this pregnancy decision alongside you. There will be a male advocate to meet with the father during your appointment to answer any questions he may have. We also have a men’s program, specifically designed to mentor and support men if they choose to parent.
When should I have an ultrasound performed?
An ultrasound is recommended after receiving a positive pregnancy test result. We offer free ultrasounds based on criteria determined by our medical staff.
Who performs your ultrasounds?
Our Registered Nurses are trained to perform a Limited Obstetric Ultrasound. We have a licensed physician (or medical doctor, D.O.) who serves as our Medical Director and provides the standing order for all pregnancy tests and ultrasounds. Ultrasound reports are read and confirmed by a licensed local OB physician.
What medical services do you provide?
All medical services are free and include pregnancy tests and limited obstetrical ultrasounds. All pregnancy tests are performed by our registered nurses (RNs) and all ultrasounds are reviewed by a licensed physician. We also provide referrals for situations that are beyond our scope of services.
Could I be pregnant and have an STD/STI?
You can be pregnant and have an STI at the same time. In fact, having an untreated STI while pregnant can cause serious harm to you and to your pregnancy. If you’ve had unprotected sex or shared needles, it’s important that you get tested immediately.
Because many STI’s don’t present with symptoms, testing is important before a pregnancy decision. We are currently in the process of adding STI testing to our medical services.
Do you provide contraceptives?
We do not provide contraceptives or contraceptive services. We encourage you to talk with your Primary Care Doctor about family planning.
What is the abortion pill?
The abortion pill induces a chemical abortion. It is taken in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy, involving 2 medications: Mifepristone and Misoprostol. To fully understand how this process works and the risks involved, please visit our abortion pill information page. We can also answer your questions during your appointment.
What if I don't know my next steps?
We understand! Many women come to us without knowing what to do next. Your best next first step is to make an appointment with us to confirm your pregnancy at no cost and explore your options. We recognize that facing an unexpected pregnancy can be overwhelming. Our caring, knowledgeable staff can discuss your situation and options holistically (physically, emotionally, spiritually, relationally, etc.), providing you with the resources you need to make an informed decision.
We provide education on abortion and pregnancy options. We do not refer for or perform abortions or provide emergency contraceptives. Contact us to learn more.
